Hydro jetting in Folsom
Hydro jetting cleans the inside of a drain or sewer line with high-pressure water. It’s the step after snaking when grease, scale or roots keep closing the pipe again.

Jetting vs. snaking
Both clear a blocked line. They do it differently, and they suit different problems.
| Snaking (cabling) | Hydro jetting | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | A rotating steel cable with a cutting head bores through the blockage | A hose with a rear-facing nozzle sprays water at high pressure, pulling itself along and scouring the pipe wall |
| What it leaves | A path through the clog. Grease and root mats stay on the walls | A cleaned pipe wall, close to its full diameter |
| Best for | Paper, wipes and objects. Restoring flow fast | Grease build-up, scale, sludge, root regrowth after cutting |
| Not for | Recurring grease clogs, where it only buys time | Broken, collapsed or badly cracked pipe |
| Usually done | First, to open the line | After a camera confirms the pipe is sound |
When jetting makes sense
- The kitchen line keeps closing up with grease, even after cabling.
- Roots have been cut and you want the pipe cleaned before a camera assessment or a liner.
- The line runs slow throughout without a single obvious blockage.
- The camera shows sludge or scale along the length of the pipe.
When it doesn’t
Jetting cleans a pipe; it doesn’t repair one. If a camera inspection shows a collapsed section, a large offset joint or a break, cleaning won’t solve the problem. Neither will cleaning the City’s part of the line, which isn’t yours to work on. See where your part ends.
Questions to ask before they start
- Will you run a camera first, and can I see the footage?
- Where will you access the line: a cleanout, a roof vent, or a toilet?
- How is the price set (flat rate or hourly), and does it include the camera?
- What happens if you find damage partway down?
- What’s your California contractor license number? You can check it with the CSLB.
Hydro jetting questions
Can hydro jetting damage my pipes?
It can if the pipe is already broken, badly cracked or collapsing, because high-pressure water can make a weak section worse. That’s why many plumbers run a camera before jetting an older line, and why jetting isn’t a fix for a broken pipe.
How long does jetting last compared with snaking?
Jetting cleans the full diameter of the pipe, so grease and loose debris take longer to build back up than after a cable has cut a single path. Roots will still regrow from any joint they came in through. Jetting doesn’t seal the pipe.
Is jetting messy?
Usually not. The hose goes in at a cleanout, often outdoors, and the water runs down the line toward the sewer. Ask where they plan to access the line before they start.
